Editorial notes:

East Coast Jazz - Very entertaining show with a couple of very talented soprano soloists. The music is fun and exciting. I was a bit surprised that they did not beat Tarheel Sun tonight.

Tarheel Sun - Sun's hornline is powerful but often overblown beyond good tone quality. They have a difficult program for a young corps but they are able to sell it well and had a good crowd response. Good use of color in the guard and a large percussion section are the highlights of their program.

Spirit of Atlanta - It's great to see Spirit back on track again with the Southern jazz. The Ol' Man River tune was especially good. They have a strong horn and percussion show that displays good technical playing. It seems that their marching is holding them back.

Academie Musicale - The guard is definitly a highlight to this corps. They have some great work with the entire guard on sabres for a portion of the show. The corps is visually strong and play fairly well, I just did not get the Metamorphosis theme.

Blue Knights - It's great to see BK doing so well again. This is there best show since 94. Ben Hur is exciting and complex. Great performances from all captions. Visuals reminded me of Star of Indiana, especially the lone ballet dancing soprano player. Way to Go BK!

Crossmen - This show is fun! The guard and percussion are incredible with the brass not far behind. Their soloists were excellent. They are not quite on the level of top six, but they will be close.

Blue Devils - PHAT! Yes fat with a Ph because it is that fat. A great show that has you picturing scenes of Casablanca. Performances in all captions are some of the best I've seen in DCI. A world champion show if ever there was one.

Madison Scouts - Not as exciting as in years past, but it still packs a punch. The guard as pirates is more masculine this year. The coolest part of the show is the percussion feature involving a scaffold full of suspended cymbal and a sword fight. You have to see it to believe it.
