Editorial notes:

NOTE: This is all too brief, since ALL six corps ROCKED THE HOUSE tonight!

Troopers: They were better than I had anticipated. The guard had some very nice moments, and the hornline balanced some beautiful chords. The percussion (both battery and pit) were almost always too loud, so any hope of gaining musical points next week relies on better corps balance.

Southwind: Bring on the Kazoos! The crowd LOVED this show. It entertained very well and kept everyone's attention. Talk about a guard that works HARD! Drum solo was the highlight of the show. Great conceptual development!

Les Etoiles: Two words: Who knew? Their crowd reaction was vociferous. What a well-designed program! I'm sure there were LOTS of GE points via the visual delight of this show. The drill is quite musical; the brass line cooked! The finale: nope, I won't spoil it. It is great!

Magic: Another crowd-rocking show. The only two negatives: the scattered guard equipment makes the field look too busy...and the drill is still as sloppy as July, but this is a fantastic product through and through.

Lil Leeza Jane (blame the announcer there) is just fun. Those kids have redefined entertainment!

Crossmen: Now, I heard the corps was good. No one bothered to tell me that 1997 is probably the BEST Crossmen corps in their history! The color guard was almost AS good as ANY CBC/BD guard! The musical arrangements are fabulous, and the drill is wonderful. If I weren't conservatively predicting next week's finish, I'd want to put them in 4th place. Well, I just might.

Cadets: My fourth viewing of this juggernaut...it gets better and better. The guard NAILED the tosses tonight, and the hornline played brilliantly. The drill is 95% there, performance-wise. I have them in first next week. I'll hold to that:)

One question: why did they not perform a victory concert?

Editorial notes:

Due to marital disharmony (This was her fourth show while I've been around Drum Corps for 30+ years) I will refrain from doing a review...However...I would like to post these comments:

Troopers...He had a dream, He had a belief...Don't ever let them die...Ghost Riders in the Sky...

Les Etoiles/Southwind...I see the future of Drum Corps reflecting from your eyes...

Magic...What can I say that has not already been voiced! One of the most (musically) disciplined corps I have ever seen! (My corps would have been hunting Hot dogs in the stands if our DM turned their back on us!!)

Crossmen....First and only time I will get to see you this year...All I have been hearing revolves around the Guard. Incredible, yes...But to see the showcase that surrounds the Guard is excellence in the making.

CBC....Keep cleaning the drill and another trophy awaits in Orlando.

All in all an incredibly well sponsored and run show. I know that many of the corps traveled quite a distance to make it and all have a long journey ahead of them to make the Saturday contests. God bless...and God speed on your journeys to finals. Thank you, all, for making the trip to Columbus and for providing us with an exceptional show.
