Great evening......After the competition, each corps returned and performed their shows in a concert formation in front of the stands. Helped tremendously.

Santa Clara Vanguard (118 members on the field)
The Santa Clara battery was all in one place, made it much easier to follow all of the visuals. Those who have seen these guys before, you were right, there is a whole lot of everything goin' on out on the field!! Overall,...WHOA!!!!! Nothin' will make your evening like sitting 35-40 feet in front of the Santa Clara brass line. Won't need to part my hair with a comb for a couple days I expect! New uniforms looked sharp. Many, many, many many goosebumps! Corps arrived in Boise 1PM Saturday. Two practice days, overnight floor time. (Hope the turkey was sliced the way you like it.)

Blue Knights (100 members on the field)
Blue Knights were very strong. Had people around me mention they seemed to run a bit out o gas (sops) about 8 minutes into the show. Lot of motion, pretty hot on the royal blue turf I would expect! Overall.....WHOa! My mind wandered a couple times. (It's okay, it does that sometimes, always finds its way back!!) Second drum major (?) in white was a distraction. Arrived in Boise in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Short practice day before performance.

Troopers (65 members on the field)
Troopers.....It was great watching these guys take the field, considering that at the camp in December they weren't real sure what would happen this year. Small group (65 on the field: 6 pit, 9 battery (3 snares, 4 basses, 2 tenor), 29 horns, 19 guard). Not bad for a first competitive performance. Great music. Understand they have two more snares learning drill and music, picking up a third in Denver. Matt, Nick and crew, great to see you guys here. To the members out there, thanks for sticking with it!! Arrived in Fruitland in the wee hours of the morning Sunday.

Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets (54 members on the field)
Santa Clara Cadets....A lot of sound out of their 54 members. I was impressed. They only tour for one more week, then they head home. Folks out their following Division II/III, you will be missing a treat. Music from Evita. Will perform in Casper, and Denver I believe before heading back to the coast. (Anyone have any favorite places of interest you could recommend for these folks to visit on their way home?)

Calgary Round Up Band. For a group of 13-15 year olds, they were entertaining. Large group (100+). Took a while to get the ears used to woodwinds. Marching xylophones (bells?). Haven't seen those in years. Bands are a bit different.

To all the competitors, thank you, I thoroughly enjoyed all the performances. Thank you for taking the time to make the trip to Boise. I hope the rest of the audience appreciates the effort it takes by your organizations to make a trip to a location just a bit off of the beaten drum corps path, as much as I did!!

Dan Aecheson (I take all responsibility for misspelled names), I hope you were impressed with the Boise crowds. Hope to see another show in Boise next year. To the corps that maybe, perhaps, rumor has it, had your arms twisted a bit, I hope it was worth the trip!

Well, I have had my fix for a while! See everyone in Denver in a week. It has been a great couple days in Boise!!

Details.....Details.....

Air temperature in Boise was 99 degrees. Turf surface (dark blue artificial turf) was measured at 106 degrees. Asphalt outside the stadium was a toasty 115 degrees. At least it's a DRY heat!!!!

Blue Knights......Saw something quite unique in the Blue Knights mellophone line! Anyone else at the Boise show notice the dedication and spirit in this line. Not trying to take anything away from any of the other lines, they were all great. Just wanted to tip my hat and say way to go to the horn staff at Blue Knights!!

SCV Cadets.....hope those sunburns behind the knees are doing better!

SCV.....Enjoyed your practices. Watched the snare line warm up for 1/2 hour to an hour Sunday afternoon. Then they went to the track, took their harnesses off, (Haven't seen harness tans like that for a while!) and ran a lap or two as a group in the 95+ heat!! Put the harnesses on, went into drill practices. Whole corps seemed to work that way. Very focused. Great stamina! Same thing Monday morning! To the cymbal specialists on the field, thank you, very enjoyable to watch you guys work! Tried to take this whole show in, far too hard to do. (I'll try to catch some of the other aspects in Denver on Saturday!)

I didn't have an opportunity to see the Troopers practices because of the distance from Boise to their housing. Matt and crew seem to be headed in the right direction. I hope their financial problems are being resolved. It was great hearing the music that made them famous back again!!

In closing, thanks to all the corps for coming to Boise. I hope it was as enjoyable for the corps members as it was for me!!
