June 19, Beavercreek, OH

Thanks to Chris Komnick on RAMD for this exclusive review!

Pioneers - Strong opener, horn line tired further into the
show, guard needs work, good mello line. Colts - Very
solid hornline, however they too tired late in the show.
Ensemble problems creep up in 2nd and closing pieces. Color
guard showed very little presence. Solist problems in
closer. I was very surprised the Glassmen scored better,
though.
Glassmen - A classical show (mostly Bach). The
entire drum line dances for most of the opening
number...this is really bad. PVC pipe use in drum solo also
makes no impact. The color guard is the strongest aspect
and the visual show appears promising, however, there are
many points in the show that they are needlessly running
or marching these tiny steps? Must have beat Colts on
visual and drums.
Cavaliers - Mars (opener) is the
strongest number at this point and makes a great impact.
The remainder of the show is well-arranged and very similar
to 1985. This is a very challenging show and will certainly
improve throughout the season. The visual aspect appeared
to make a great impact but was difficult to judge from the
6th row.
Scouts - Very stong horn line with "in your
face" soprano line and non-stop rips from the mellos. This
show is pure Madison with a very strong horn line, an
exceptionally powerful drum line, and fast-moving visual.
The guard is suprisingly weak for Madison and the drill
certainly needs tweaking and cleaning. A crowd favorite as
the Scouts were treated to 4 standing ovations. IMHO-
This joint retreat sucks, but worst of all is the no post-
concert concept. An evening ruined by not getting to be
blasted away by the Scouts from 20 feet.
