Thanks to Bob von Buelow on r.a.m.d for this review!

Some quick and brief comments on this show.

venue: nice, good crowd

Mandarins - first time I've seen them. Those big drums they use to open
and close the show are awesome!

the Big Boys:

Blue Knights: ok, I thought they sounded like the Tonight show band at
times. The Bass drum cadence they played while the corps marched out
was great! Their director seemed to be fussing at them to get off the
field for the next corps. Forget that! let them play!

VK. fun show. A couple of things didn't seem to work. Lose the guy in
the long ugly mask. The astronaut worked well though. Needs a stronger
closer a'la Star Wars or ST-TNG theme.

SCV. I loved it. in a word: Beautiful. the sea colors of the guard and
the flags really did give a nice feeling of floating in the sea. I have
to believe that more objective scoring will put them right there with BD.

BD. Powerful show. but sometimes the guard was off by itself and the
show didn't seem well integrated. They won by about 3 points. Their
victory concert was fantastic!

Disney Future Corp/Magic Kingdom Korps. only 9 brass, 3 drums, but they
are in a league above the rest. they should be, they are professionals.
Their musicians are the best (and loudest!). They didn't miss a step or
beat. Their precision was perfect. If they had 40 members it would be a
mistake to have them on a DCI venue because they would make everyone
else look bad by comparison. Great show, well received, good music AND
fun too.

for what it's worth,

Bob
